Description
Theories of Personality provides a comprehensive foundation on the nature of personality theory, as well as its contributions to science. Coverage of each theory encompasses a biographical sketch of each theorist, related research, and applications to real life. Written by two preeminent psychology professors, Gregory J. Feist, and Tomi-Ann Roberts, this program is engaging and student-friendly introduction to Personality Psychology.
The tenth edition provides new studies and sections on topics such as the importance of the internet and social media to various personality theories, content on real-ideal self-discrepancy as it relates to online gaming, and new information on changes in personality over time. The Connect course for this the tenth edition includes SmartBook, an adaptive reading and study experience which guides students to master, recall, and apply key concepts while providing automatically-graded assessments.
I have three textbooks on personality theories and this one is by far the best. There is no comparison.
I have one written by Eric Shiraev which I cannot recommend to anyone; it’s weakly written and fails to elaborate on several topics after mentioning them. It leaves you with more questions than answers and offers no insights but a simple history of the theories.
My second book is written by Cervone and Pervin. It is a good book and I do recommend it to anyone interested in personality.
But this one by Feist, Roberts, & Feist is the clear winner. It covers more theorists than the others and offers a very insightful approach to thinking about the theories and how they stand up to scrutiny. It is thorough and potent. It somehow says everything it needs to without wasting your time. I bought and read this because my required text for class was so bad (Shiraev), and I’m glad I did because it gave me the deeper comprehension and clearer understanding I needed to fully wrap my head around these theories and apply them to my coursework. The difference is like night and day reading the two books side by side. Shiraev should be embarrassed. I’m worried because I have another course coming up with a textbook that he authored (Cross-cultural Psychology). I hope it isn’t as bad as his personality theories book.
Anyway, absolutely excellent book. I can’t say enough about it. Amazing work.
It’s a text book. It was required for school. It functioned as expected. The words and pictures were intact, as were the pages and cover. It supplemented the rest of the course marerials as expected. Would recommend to any one else who has to use it for a class
