Description
Combining medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be challenging but can also enhance patient care. This book reviews the existing literature about the neurobiological and clinical basis in combining CBT and medication for non-psychiatrist mental health clinicians. Filled with case studies drawn from the author’s extensive clinical and teaching experience, this book breaks new ground in bringing together the most current, proven protocols for using drugs and CBT to improve client care. Practitioners will find in this volume the tools to make informed recommendations to patients.
I was having symptoms of c-ptsd and didn’t even know it! I kept thinking I was having panic attacks but thanks to my therapist who gave me homework. She told me to order this book and work through each chapter together. First of all chapter 1 will gather you in a good way. It’s going to be an eye opener for sure! BUT YOU MUST BE READY TO HEAL IN ORDER FOR IT TO WORK!
This is intended to be used as a journal. It will describe symptoms and why the brain does that, discuss what that might look like and give prompts on checking in with yourself for what you are doing and ways to begin healing for example yoga, changing your internal narrative.
Highly recommend for clients beginning to understand and manage CPTSD
This book has a lot of good information. I’m really into psychology and I have ptsd so this was a very interesting read with a lot of helpful tips and activities.
I’m sure this book would be beneficial to many people especially to those seeking knowledge about CPTSD and what it is. It would probably even be great if done alongside a good therapist to get more deeply into the self work that is needed when coping with CPTSD. But for me (after a quick scan of the book) it just seems like it would be good at telling me things I’ve already figured out, and it would have been more useful to me had I found it when I first started realizing my situation as opposed to years later after I’ve done all the online research and online groups. For me, at this moment in time, this book feels elementary so I ended up returning it and seeking something deeper.
