Description
Were you raised by a narcissist? This essential guide will show you how to stop feeling invisible, quiet your critical inner voice, and start living life on your own terms.
Did you grow up with a mother who was controlling or manipulative? Was she emotionally or psychologically abusive toward you? Did she make you feel ashamed, rejected, or “crazy?” Was it all about her, all of the time? When your mother is a narcissist, it can damage and invalidate your sense of self, and leave you with lasting anxiety, insecurity, self-doubt, and a relentlessly critical internal voice. But there are tools you can use to move forward in your adult life with confidence. The evidence-based skills in this book will help you heal the scars of growing up with a self-absorbed and narcissistic mother.
Written by a psychologist and expert in narcissism, Adult Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers offers proven-effective strategies drawn from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help you reduce anxiety, build confidence, overcome self-criticism, and live the life you deserve. You’ll also find tons of practical tips to help you build healthy, trusting relationships; stop apologizing for the failures of others; and start trusting your own good judgment.
If you were raised by a narcissistic mother and are struggling with the lingering effects of a toxic upbringing, this is the road map you need to heal the past and thrive in the present and future.
I have a narcissistic mother and had no idea till tictok started showing me videos I didn’t even know I needed to see! She fits 💯 even the same words are used! This book helps me understand and as the scapegoat child I can now start to heal from the guilt and shame she put on me! She’s emotionally immature and narcissistic.
I’ve read nearly all the main book on narcissistic mothers and this one had some good points but I did not generally relate to most of it for some reason. The mothers I know are not this type of narcissist. The book I related to more was Narcissistic Mothers by Linda Hill so you may want to read that too.
This book has some coping skills which are good. There is a section on boundaries. The part about whether your mother is a grandiose or vulnerable narcissist is helpful to figure out for further reading.
So if your mother is/was more destructive this book may interest you. If your mother just brags and is annoying this book is far more complex and deals with much more damaging issues.
~The Rebecca Review
If you were raised by a narcissist mother, this book needs to be under your pillow. Because it can make you cry like a child. Don’t get me wrong – you really need this. In order to fix something, you need to admit and accept that something is wrong. And it’s not you. This book talks to you like a friend, a truthful and kind friend, that will tell you the truth that you need to know for only one purpose: healing. This is what this book is about, healing. I strongly recommend.
Although this book throws some triggers out there and was at times difficult to get through, it was very informative and useful. I am slowly starting my healing process and with the right tools I can make it through this!
Great food for thought and soul searching in this book. Love the example stories.
